Hey guys!! I hope you all are having a great day. Hubby is off work this week for his vacation, we aren't doing anything but it is nice to have him home with us. I showed you my dining room table awhile ago. Here's the thing I am happy with the way that it is I am just in need of some change. I recovered the chairs about a year and a half ago. I cannot decide if I want to reupholster them again or go with slipcovers. That's where you guys come in to help me decide. :)
Here is a picture of how the table and chairs look today.
Here is what I was thinking of doing. I would make these long dining chair covers be the end chairs. Probably put some pretty pillows on each one. (We hardly ever use this table). I do like this color of the slipcover doesn't leave me so limited with decor, as the red ones on the chairs do now. I love me some red but I'm thinking more accents of red will be better.
Here are the slipcovers I would go with for the rest of the chairs. I think maybe I would add some trim to the bottom of them just to dress them up a bit. What do you think?
I've been searching dining room tables and I am in love with the chunky legs. I might see if the hubs can help me pick out some legs that I could stain and we could change the ones out that are on there now. What do you think of that? Decisions ,Decisions ,Decisions. Something like this.
So, guys what do you think I should do recover the chairs or get slipcovers. Any and all suggestions will help me make up my mind.
Have a great day!!

Hi Alysson....I think you are having problems with the dining room because the wood is really dark. Your cupboards look like medium oak. Is this an antique? Have you thought about painting the chairs. Now I know this is a shock coming from me, but I think you want it to lighten up a bit. Just a thought. I know it is hard to paint wood and I usually don't.
Covering the end chairs is a good idea, but I still think you would be not totally happy with the side chairs.
Ok, if you think I am nutz, just forget I said anything!!! Have a good day!
I've never been a fan of slip covers so I say recover! I really like the chunky table legs too.
I really do like the slipcovers and adding a pillow Ally. Great idea! You could change things easily as well. Everythingn here looks very pretty.
Have a great day!

I have to agree with Tracy, my experience with slipcovers has been less than satisfying! They always look so good in the pictures but when I've used them they've looked cheap and always need re-adjusting. I think re-covering is a good way to go since they're such lovely chairs anyway!
I'd love to see them slipcovered. I like the red and it'd be nice if you could switch between the slips and the red fabric you recently upholstered them whenver you felt like a change.
I like the slipcovers and pillows. More options. ;)
Hi Allyson, Love all your selections. I have a similar kitchen table but with white legs, my parents gave me before moving back south. The pillows are gorgeous. The slipcovers are very elegant but the black chairs are also nice. Red accents would go with your other decor. Thanks for sharing.Emelia.
Beautiful stuff I am seeing here on your blog. You would love Melissa's Heart and Home... your stuff and what I am seeing reminds me of her and her blog.
Thanks for becoming my 2000 follower WA-HOO! I am now following you too. Have a super day. winks-jen
Allyson, I like your table as it is. I think the slip covers on the end chairs with the pillows will give it a bit dressier look. I think it would look beautiful.
It is nice to change things up every now and then, it makes us happy! Either way, the table looks nice. I like the arrangement on the table top. It's pretty.
have a happy day~ L
I like the slats on your chairs. I personally think they should show all around. Why not go with the "ruffles all around" (seat only) slipcover from gard'n designs? (no e in gard'n)...They sell mostly shabby chic type stuff, but with your decor, the black ticking on natural would look too cute, and you can wash them in the washing machine. Plus, when you want to enjoy your red you can take them off.

I have the lilac and natural stripe in my kitchen, and I love them because they wash very well!
I'm so glad you popped by my blog ~ it's nice to meet you!
I like the slip cover look. However, my current goal is to lighten and brighten up my home. For several years I really liked jewel tone colors. The back of our home gets limited natural light so it always seems dark. Adding lighter color accents has really helped. Hope this helps a little with your decision. I love the legs on the table.

Hi Allyson!
I would probably just recover the seats...very easy to do actually. I love the chunky legs on the dining table!
Hope this helps yah!!

I would slipcover for sure. I was actually looking into getting the linen slipcovers you have pictured for some chairs of mine lol. Great minds think alike :-)
A way you can keep the slipcover more tailored and fit the chair better if you have problems is to tie
a thick ribbon around the back of the chair. Put the thick part in the front of the chair on the middle of it then wrap the ribbon around to the back and tie with a bow. I was thinking you could use a red ribbon to tie in the reds that you already have. Hope that made sense the way I explained that. I had a friend do this during xmas time and it looked cute. Of course if the slipcovers fit good then just leave them plain. I love them.
I love the color of your table. You did a beautiful job doing it.
The less fabric the better. But I think in terms of kids and greasy fingers and how easy is it to keep clean. Though I think the slipcovers look great and if washable then that might work wonderfully. Good luck!
I've never had slipcovers before, so I don't know how well they hold up with kids, but I must say...I sure love the look. I also like adding pillows...it warms up the space and adds a bit of character, too! =)
Good luck! XOXOX ~Liz
I think I would cover the seats and see how that looks & feels. It would be a lighter look for spring & summer and...if you didn't really like it...you could so the slipcovers for fall/winter.
Just my 2 cents! :-)
